Life is a passion project. My brand Živo Naturals was born out of a love of all things natural and a desire to find body care products that truly work, made with only the purest ingredients. Never fully satisfied with what was on the store shelves, I started making my own. With all my experience writing for other businesses, it was a heck of a lot of fun creating the copy for something birthed out of my own imagination—from product and color names to all the sales and web copy.

Being a big fan of mountain culture, I was thrilled to work on this hybrid writing-editing project for the Wasatch Mountain Film Festival’s annual collectible magazine. Another writer had conducted the interview for this story and then I was called in to write the article from his notes. It was a super inspiring story to get to bring to life, including a blend of outdoor life, art, and triumph over tragedy.

When Salt Lake City’s beloved alt-country band Ugly Valley Boys were putting together their press kit, I was asked to write an album review. The best part was getting to leave their music on repeat!

Megan Richardson - Music Review

“Ugly Valley Boys come out swingin’! Like a good old-fashioned barroom brawl, their debut album, Double Down, makes no apologies for its surly demeanor. Classic style meets fresh energy in a collection of songs as spry as they are wry, with a voice that’s honest and introspective, yet welcoming to all who venture to lend an ear. Pull up a seat by the fire, take a golden swig, and listen to tales from a band of dusty strangers sure to become old friends.”

Read my personal projects on Medium

I think at some point in time, every writer tries to fight her destiny. There’s nothing glamorous about locking yourself up in a room with a notepad or computer and then realizing, when you finally look up an hour or five later, that you still haven’t showered or had anything to eat. Add to this the looming self-contempt when you notice that the sun, which has been shining all day, is beginning to sink and you haven’t so much as stepped out into its light.

But for all the times you look at the computer, over to the window, back at the computer, back to the window, and finally let out a resigned sigh, you know there is a reward waiting if you just do the work. Is it as great a reward as participating in a day in the outside world? Who knows? But the fact that some thoughts just won’t leave you alone is enough to keep driving the inner writer ever outward—scribbling, typing, racing the sun to the end of the day…

I turned to Medium as the canvas for all those things that keep me up at night, the things I wish I could whisper to a friend or shout from the rooftops, the things my inner lion keeps roaring but my mouse-mouth can never seem to eek out. I hope that sharing my thoughts will help other people to find comfort, formulate their own ideas, or be encouraged to keep asking questions. At the very least, I can quiet the lion and get on with my day.
